Summer Winds Down, With Hints of Great Fall Angling Ahead in Rice Lake
Musky anglers are enjoying some great late summer fishing
August 26, 2008—(Rice Lake, WI) — The timing of the seasons has seemed a bit off this year, with anglers experiencing a late spring, followed by a late summer. And now, it feels like fall is coming on a bit early.
Sunrise temperatures on several days have been in the 40s, with a very crisp and autumn-like feel in the air.
For musky anglers, the onset of fall is very good news. It seems like muskies are beginning to put on their fall feedbags right now. On Rice Lake, in particular, musky anglers have been finding some good action. A tried-and-true technique for early fall muskies is fishing big bucktails over drop offs and deep weedbeds.
Walleye angling has been pretty good, though the coldfront that moved through mid-weekend slowed things down. The clear skies didn’t seem to dampen the mood of the bluegills, which were still willing to bite on most area lakes.
Bass continue to provide steady action. It has been a fantastic year for bass fishing in the Rice Lake area. Anglers have continued to catch good numbers of bass throughout the summer, and that action seems to be continuing unabated.
For anglers who love fall fishing, there’s lots of great fishing ahead in Rice Lake in the coming weeks.
